A normal balance of estrogen and progesterone are also important for ovulation.

Medroxyprogesterone is also known as Provera.

FertilitySmarts explains Medroxyprogesterone

With conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), hormones are often out of balance, which creates symptoms including an irregular menstrual cycle and infertility. By supplementing with progesterone, a natural menstrual cycle can be mimicked to restore hormonal balance and ovulation.

In women who have irregular menstrual cycles or low progesterone levels, medroxyprogesterone is sometimes given. Medroxyprogesterone is often given by mouth for 10 days. Once the medication is stopped, a menstrual period can be expected in about 3-4 days.

Common side effects may include breast tenderness, abnormal vaginal bleeding, acne, stomach upset, and weight gain.
