What Does Squinter Pregnancy Test Mean?

A squinter pregnancy test is a home pregnancy test which, after being taken, has what can appear to be a very faint line. It is so named because the line is so faint that you would have to squint and stare at it to determine whether the test is positive or negative.

FertilitySmarts Explains Squinter Pregnancy Test

Squinter results or squinters, usually occur when a woman takes a pregnancy test during the two-week wait period between ovulation or fertility treatment and the missed period. During this period, it is unlikely that enough human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG), the hormone that is present during pregnancy and is used as a marker in home pregnancy tests, would be present to allow for an accurate reading.

Some people upload pictures of their squinters into forums and online groups asking for help to determine whether the test is positive or negative. Pregnancy test tweaking, where photos are manipulated with the hopes of highlighting a faint line is also popular in some online communities.

These squinter tests have been notorious in the trying to conceive community for causing distress and anxiousness. It is possible that just knowing where the line is supposed to be and expecting one can be part of the confusion.

While it may be difficult, by waiting until after a missed period to test, squinter test results and the accompanying anxiety can be avoided.
