Homogenous Uterus

Definition - What does Homogenous Uterus mean?

A homogeneous uterus is a term used to describe a uterus that is uniform in appearance as seen on an ultrasound examination. Essentially, it means a “normal uterus.”

The presence of a homogenous uterus on a woman’s ultrasound who is having a hard time getting pregnant likely indicates that the cause of infertility lies somewhere outside the uterus such as in the ovaries, prompting the doctor to check for other causes.

FertilitySmarts explains Homogenous Uterus

A homogenous uterus is contrary to a heterogeneous uterus that is not entirely uniform and may have harmless growths called fibroids or abnormally contain uterine glands in the muscular wall of the uterus instead of the inner uterine lining, a condition called adenomyosis.

These uterine conditions can interfere with the implantation of the embryo into the uterine lining and eventually with a woman’s potential to conceive.
