A mock embryo transfer is a is a trial run of an embryo transfer, where a doctor uses an empty catheter to gain access to the uterus via the cervix to assess the depth of the uterine cavity, its orientation, and the best passage through the endocervical canal to get to the uterus. It is a common procedure done to maximize the pregnancy rate in an IVF cycle.
