What Does
Pregnant Until Proven Otherwise (PUPO) Mean?
Pregnant until proven otherwise, or PUPO, is a statement that is commonly used on social media, fertility message boards or online support groups that refers to a purposefully positive mindset that women or couples choose to occupy during the time period after undergoing fertility treatment or timed intercourse and before they are aware if conception has occurred.

The Two-Week Wait & PUPO
The two-week wait (2WW) is the time frame between when timed intercourse or a fertility procedure such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), intrauterine insemination (IUI), or a frozen embryo transfer (FET) has taken place and the period of time where a Beta hCG test or home pregnancy test can be taken with the greatest accuracy.
Coping During the 2WW
PUPO is a reference to a positive mindset women or couples choose to focus on during this time period to help cope with the anxiety of the waiting period while they wait to see if the timed intercourse or fertility procedure has been successful.
This mindset may be a decision from the onset or can be inspired by feelings or indications that are interpreted as the signs of an impending pregnancy.
Personal Preference
To some, PUPO is a way to stay positive during what for many couples and individuals is a time of great stress and uncertainty. To others, the idea of this mindset is simply added pressure during an already stressful time.
